J.A. Hoskins is a Canadian-born Australian author living on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. A lifelong lover of stories, she spent years writing behind the scenes — as an engineer, technical writer, and ghostwriter — before stepping into her own voice.
Having lived across two hemispheres, she writes from a place of curiosity and reinvention - often in the company of great tea, quiet places, and a thousand as-yet unwritten ideas - and is drawn to the quiet strength it takes to start new things.
Writer-in-Residence marks her debut novel and the start of a new creative chapter, one shaped by resilience, wonder, and the craft of language.
"For me, the problem with writing has never been not wanting to 'show up at the page' and do the work - the problem has always been prioritizing everything else ahead of the story. But the older I get, the louder those stories are knocking, wanting to be told - so now's the time..."
Finally able to rightfully claim the title of "Author", J.A. Hoskins springs from a background in chemical engineering, technical writing, ghostwriting, and teaching - and now she has started doing what she always wanted to do - write stories.

Writer-in-Residence, released October 14, 2025
When Rebecca Morley's carefully constructed life unravels in the unlikeliest of places, she is forced to confront a question she never thought she'd face: Who am I when I am no longer who I was?
Far from home, thrust into upheaval she neither chose nor expected, what begins as betrayal becomes the start of a journey - one that pushes her to confront old truths, rediscover her voice, and decide whether the past will define her future.
Set against the dazzling, restless backdrop of Las Vegas, Writer-in-Residence follows Rebecca as she navigates between what she has always known and the possibilities she never dared imagine. Along the way she encounters new friendships, unexpected allies, and the creative spark she thought she had lost. Writing becomes not only her refuge but her compass, guiding her toward a self she had nearly forgotten: independent, curious, unafraid.
Rebecca's journey is raw, hopeful, and bracingly honest, demonstrating that change isn't always tidy, healing is seldom linear, and joy often arrives where we least expect it.
A contemporary novel about reinvention, resilience, and the courage it takes to author a life of your own making, Writer-in-Residence is for anyone who has stood at the edge of a familiar life and felt the pull of an unwritten page - a reminder that endings are rarely the end, and that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is begin again.
"The idea for this book planted in my mind during a trip to Las Vegas, where I watched a guy in a suit tearing strips off of his rather mundane wife, and then leaving her there in the middle of the casino floor with barely a look back. She stared blankly after him, stating that he can't just leave her in Las Vegas. I have no idea what happened to them after that - I mean, you check that someone's okay and then you move on - but in my mind, the story took shape so quickly that it was all I could think about, I had to sit down and start writing."
John - releasing January, 2026
After a shattering family tragedy, Jude escapes to the Adelaide Hills, a place filled with memories of childhood vacations. There she meets John, whose quiet devotion and steadfast friendship offer her the strength to begin again.
A novel of unconditional love, resilience in the face of hardship, and the courage it takes to embrace tomorrow, John is a moving reminder that even in life’s darkest seasons, hope can still take root.
"I wrote the premise for John back in 2020, the early days of the pandemic. It started out as a 15-page short story with gaps. It's taken over five years for the rest of the story to come to me. John is truly a labor of love."
The books are available in paperback, eBook, and large-print paperback on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
The book is also available as an eBook on Kobo, and will soon be available on Apple Books.
